Intended Use
The ASO Fast Test Kit (Immunofluorescence Assay) is intended for in vitro quantitative determination of anti-streptolysin "O" antibody (ASO) in serum, plasma, or whole blood samples. ASO is a valuable marker for the diagnosis of group A streptococcal infection, and its titer can reflect the severity of infection. Some diseases that can lead to a significant increase in ASO titer include acute glomerulonephritis, nodular erythema, scarlet fever, acute tonsillitis, and wind damp heat.
About ASO
Streptolysin "O", a protein with hemolytic activity, is one of the important metabolites of group A streptococcus. It can dissolve the red blood cells of humans and some animals. Streptolysin "O" has strong antigenicity, and when a person is infected with group A hemolytic streptococcus, B lymphocytes will secrete corresponding antibodies under the stimulation of streptolysin "O", known as anti-streptolysin "O" (ASO). This antibody neutralizes streptolysin "O", disabling its hemolytic ability. ASO levels begin to rise one week after group A streptococcus infection, peak in 4-5 weeks, and can last for several months.
As the infection subsides, ASO levels decrease and return to normal within 6 months. The progression of the disease can be judged by repeated ASO measurements over time. An increase in ASO levels suggests the early stage of infection, while a decrease indicates subsiding infection. A lack of decline in ASO titer suggests the possibility of recurrent or chronic infection.
